“Addressing Your Communities’ Flood Problems – A Guide for Newly Elected Officials”
As a member of the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition, your city’s or county’s appointed Elected and Technical Representatives are invited to attend this training. Attending this training will be beneficial to your city or county in the following ways:
- FREE workshop that explains the issues and complexities of floodplain management and a FREE lunch;
- Attendees will earn 8 hours of Continuing Education Credit from the Texas Floodplain Management Association upon completion of the day;
- Opportunity to connect with others in your field who have like-minded concerns and questions.
The morning session each day will focus on developing a better understanding of the flood risk associated with living on the Colorado River and the Highland Lakes. Wes Birdwell was the River Operations Manager at LCRA for 22 years and will speak from his experience and knowledge of the river and lake system. The morning session will conclude with information on where you can go for help during floods. The afternoon session each day will focus on developing a basic understanding of FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program. Michael Segner is the State Coordinator for the NFIP and is over the flood programs at the Texas Water Development Board.
